Steel Challenge-2026 Area 8 Championship
Welcome to the Area 8 Steel Challenge Championship.
MATCH DESCRIPTION:
This is a Level 3 Steel Challenge, 8 stage match.
Round count will be 195 minimum (plus makeup shots). Bring extra ammo, as it there is none available for purchase at the facility.
RULES:
All current Steel Challenge Shooting Association rules apply.
All 16 SCSA divisions (with LO, RRI, & RRO) are included.
Note: RRI (Rimfire Revolver Irons) and RRO (Rimfire Revolver Optics) must use speedloaders - either 5 speedloaders or 1 or more speedloaders with a loading block ready for 5 strings.
You may only register a MAXIMUM of 2 guns per squad per flight.
SCORING:
We will use the normal Steel Challenge Scoring.
SAFETY AREAS:
Thurmont Conservation and Sportsman's Club is a COLD range.
Firearms must be unloaded at all times except during the Course Of Fire under the direct supervision of a Range Officer (RO).
HANDLING OF FIREARMS AT YOUR VEHICLES IS PROHIBITED.
Long guns must have an EMPTY CHAMBER INDICATOR (Chamber Flag) IN PLACE at all times starting from the moment the rifle is uncased for placement in a gun cart or brought to the shooting position.
Pistols may be unbagged and holstered ONLY at designated safety areas or unbagged under the direction of a RO at the shooting position.
Safe Areas will be clearly marked.
Again...DO NOT HANDLE ANY UNCASED WEAPONS AT YOUR VEHICLES!!!
NO AMMUNITION HANDLING in safety areas.
All pistol calibers permitted. As per SCSA rules the maximum velocity for any Handgun or Pistol Caliber Carbine shooting steel is 1600fps.
The use of ANY Steel core, or steel (bimetal) jacketed ammunition (even with permitted calibers) is PROHIBITED. If the bullet (not the casing) reacts to a magnet it is prohibited ammunition, no exceptions.
Awards:
Steel Master, Rimfire Master, and Rifle Master awards will be recognized per the current SCSA Rulebook.

$75 per gun

Refunds:
Full Refund up to and including TBD
50% Refund after TBD and before 11:59PM, TBD
ZERO Refund after 11:59PM, TBD
Check-in begins 2 hours before each flight of squads.
Safety Brief 1 hour before each flight of squads.
Hammer down at squad designated times.
Morning squads will be hammer down at 9AM.
Afternoon squads will be hammer down at 2PM.
