The New Shooter Comprehensive Introductory (NSCI) holster program for IDPA gives participants the essential foundational knowledge and skills for safe firearm handling and holster use in dynamic shooting.
It’s 8 hours of training and practical tests on the range.
Those that pass the live fire exam are eligible to certify for the IDPA 5×5 Classifier Stage.
Participants will learn about IDPA rules on engagement and safety requirements, safety table etiquette DO’s and DON’T’s, proper carry procedures, drawing techniques, ensuring safe and efficient firearm deployment.
Participants are taught the correct method for clearing and re-holstering their firearm to conclude each exercise or CoF safely.
Training includes navigating a CoF and engaging designated targets with precise muzzle control.
Emphasis is placed on maintaining strict muzzle discipline throughout all movements, drills, and engagements.
WHAT THIS COURSE IS:
This course focuses on learning how to use a holster safely and earning a certification for dynamic competitions. Those who complete it successfully will receive an NSCI Holster Certificate, allowing them to compete in IDPA, 3 Gun, ODPL, the Service Pistol Course, and Pistol/Rifle Unknown Distance Matches.
WHAT THIS COURSE IS NOT:
This course isn’t about becoming a better competitor or learning how to shoot a pistol from scratch, you should already have at least basic beginner-level shooting skills. Instead, through the exercises, you’ll focus on becoming a safer pistol shooter.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN AT THE COURSE:
Fire up to 245 rounds with a focus on keeping shot groups well-centered for better muzzle control. Always prioritize safety by following established range protocols and best practices. Build skill in drawing and shooting from a holster, geared toward competitive shooting, while keeping safety front and center. Learn to spot and clear common malfunctions like squibs, stovepipes, double feeds, and failures to extract. Improve muzzle control techniques while moving to maintain accuracy and stability. Use the right safety gear to ensure full compliance with personal protective standards.
WHAT YOU NEED TO ATTEND:
What you need to Attend:
1- Experience, it’s important to know how your pistol works, including the steps for field stripping and cleaning.
2- You must have fired a minimum 1000 rounds with your pistol that will be used on the course.
3- Know how to zero your Iron sights or Red Dot optic, and have the tools needed to do it.
4-For safety reasons if your Pistol or Optic is non-functional on the course, you will be pulled from the course.
WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING:
– Pistol Belt with Holster, and a min. of 3 magazine pouches (No Appendix holsters)
– RPAL & registration for your pistol
– Your Pistol
– Min. of 3 magazines for your pistol
– 245 rounds of factory match ammo or safe Hand-Load ammo minimum (Bring extra just in case).
– Tools – All tools to adjust sights or red dot
– Electronic Ears w/ Spare batteries. MANDATORY. For safety reasons anyone not hearing or understanding range commands will be pulled from the event.
– Eye Protection MANDATORY.
– Sun Hat MANDATORY.
– Sunscreen MANDATORY.
– Water, will be provided, bring some electrolytes to add to the water.
For Health and Safety reasons if you have
signs of Heat Related Illness you will be pulled from the Course.
-Snacks & lunch. There is nothing is available on site (other chips and snacks at the club house), no time to leave the range.
– Appropriate clothing for the weather. We shoot rain or extreme heat. Suggestion… DO NOT WEAR BLACK CLOTHING. Wear light coloured and loose-fitting clothing.
– You may bring a Pop-Up Tent to shelter under.
– Work Gloves for Targets
– Pens & Paper (Or device) for Notes
– Allergic to anything? If so, it’s mandatory to bring an EpiPen, Antihistamines, Benadryl etc. There will not be any on site as we cannot administer medication.
Cost and Course Details:
– Course Cost is $225 – Required to be approved entry into the course.
If the course is full, please sign up anyway and it will add you to the waiting list
with no charge.
– Read course material sent to you in advance by email (once payment has been received).
– Complete and send back the test sent to you which needs an 80% pass minimum
– 1 day course at Sharon Gun Club, and successful participants receive a Holster Certification
Course Schedule:
– Meet at 8:00 am, a gate code will be sent to those registered in the course.
Please do not be late, check in with Staff on range 2. If gate is open proceed to the range 2, leave all equipment in car and find a staff member to receive further instructions.
– SAFETY BRIEFING: For safety reasons If you are not present for the start of the
Safety Briefing you will not be allowed to shoot; no refunds will be offered.
– READ THIS PLEASE: If you are not certain you will attend this Course DO NOT REGISTER.
– REFUNDS: Refunds are available up until 21 days before the course, less an Admin fee of $25.
