Safety Briefing that all must read:
Pioneer Safety protocols focus on the "Four Rules of Gun Safety" to ensure a secure environment, emphasizing that all guns are loaded, muzzle discipline is paramount, fingers remain off triggers until sights are on target, and targets must be positively identified. Immediate disqualification (DQ) results from violating safety rules, such as breaking the 180-degree plane, dropping a gun, or handling firearms outside designated safe areas.
Core Safety Rules
The Four Rules: Treat all guns as loaded, never point the muzzle at anything you are not willing to destroy, keep your finger off the trigger until sights are on target, and be sure of your target and backstop.
Safe Areas: Handling your firearm (taking it out of the holster, dry firing, cleaning) is only permitted in designated Safe Table areas. No ammo or magazines are allowed to be handled in the safe area.
Handling Outside Safe Areas: Handling a gun anywhere else (e.g., parking lot, behind the firing line) is an immediate DQ.
Muzzle Discipline: The muzzle must never cover any part of your body (especially during drawing/reholstering) or break the 180-degree plane relative to the backstop. During reloads and movement, muzzle must be pointed at the berm. Pioneer does not allow high muzzle reloading.
Range Commands and Procedures
"Range is Hot": Signals that you must be ready to shoot; ensure eye and ear protection are on.
"Load and Make Ready": Command to load your firearm and prepare for the stage.
"Unload and Show Clear": After shooting, remove the magazine, lock the slide back, and allow the Safety Officer (SO) to inspect the chamber.
"Slide Down/ Close cylinder, Hammer Forward/Pull Trigger": Point the gun at the backstop (not the ground or sky) and pull the trigger to drop the hammer.
"Stop": If you hear "Stop!", immediately cease fire, freeze, and wait for instructions from the Safety Officer.
General Match Safety
Equipment: Eye and ear protection are mandatory at all times while on the range.
Drawing: Use a smooth, safe draw, ensuring the muzzle does not sweep your body.
Assistance: If you need help, inform the SO; you must attend a new shooter safety briefing. While on the Range do not unholster your weapon unless under the supervision of a SO or at the safe table.
Appendix carry – Not allowed at Pioneer.
Pioneer is a Cold Range-A "cold range" is a safety policy at shooting ranges requiring all firearms to be unloaded, with magazines removed and actions open, at all times except when the shooter is actively at the firing line. It is a standard safety measure designed to allow for safe movement behind the firing line. If you are carrying, seek a SO to unload your carry. Once the match is over, seek an SO to once again load your carry gun just prior to departure of the range.
Key Aspects of a Cold Range Policy
Unloaded Weapons: All firearms must be unloaded when not in the process of shooting on one of the ranges.
No Handling Behind the Line: Firearms should not be handled, uncased, or holstered behind the firing line.
Safe Downrange Access: This policy allows for safe movement downrange to check or reset targets.
Safe Areas: Pioneer provides specialized stations to safely unload or uncase firearms before entering the main range area. You must never touch Ammunition.
911 emergency procedure- Address of club 21 Farrington rd. or 1046 Clinton St. Dunbarton , NH. If there is a training accident” you will be instructed by the SO’s on what you need to
do”.
