***Effective immediately: due to safety concerns surrounding the Sig P320, Outlaw Steel is banning the firearm platform from all outlaw steel events. This decision wasn't arrived at lightly, but in the interest of safety of our members and guests, we've had to make this decision. This will be reevaluated at a later date, once the issue has been rectified by Sig Sauer. Please note, if you show up with a P320, you will not be allowed to shoot the gun*****
What is Outlaw Steel?
This sport is very similar to Steel Challenge. If you're starting with a rimfire/PCC rifle, or rimfire pistol, you will start at low ready. For centerfire pistols, you're start loaded and holstered with your hands in the surrender position. At the beep, you'll engage 5 steel targets in any order, with one steel target painted a different color indicating it's the stop plate, meaning the plate you shoot last after shooting the other 4. You'll repeat this a total of 5 times with your worst time thrown out and the other four used to calculate your stage time.
Please note: calibers allowed are as follows: 22 long rifle, 9mm, .40 S&W, 45 ACP, 38 special. No bottleneck pistol cartridges, magnum pistol cartridges, or bottleneck rifle cartridges allowed.
This is one of the best ways to get into action shooting, as well as getting younger shooters started in action shooting.
All skill levels are welcome, and we always welcome new shooters!
This year will be a bit different from last year in that we're setting up the stages the day of the match. With 60+ shooters, this will literally take 10 minutes at most once all of the steel and equipment is dropped off.
If you see that the squads are full, please continue to register. We'll make room for you.
Setup starts at 08:00 am. If you can meet at the connex boxes to help load steel and equipment onto the trailer, that will make things run much smoother. Please note that you must help with setup, otherwise you will not be allowed to shoot the match. The sooner we are done with setup, the sooner we can get check in done, safety brief finished and begin shooting at 9am sharp. Our hope is that we have the targets and bays set up before 8:30am so that I can get the tablets synced, everyone completely checked in, and get the safety brief done so that we're shooting at 9am. Shooters not checked-in, or not helping with setup will forfeit their spot. There are no exceptions to this. There are tasks that don't involve lifting steel, so if you have physical issues that prevent you from lifting steel, there will be many other things that need to be done.
**** IF YOU ARE NOT CHECKED IN BY THE TIME THE SAFETY BRIEF STARTS, YOU WILL BE DELETED FROM THE MATCH ***
The prices are $10 for ASC members, and $20 for non-members. Second gun is an additional $5
If you’re only interested in shooting one division, please just go ahead and register and pay.
If you would like to shoot two guns, please follow this process and we’ll get you squared away.
1. Register for your first division, select option for second gun, pay, and squad.
2. Send an email to ddiomede@gmail.com with the following: first and last name, email address used for Practiscore, and the division for your second gun
3. The match director will register and squad you
A few other additions going forward:
1. If you’re bringing a junior shooter, please select the appropriate box for junior on the registration page since they shoot free.
USPSA/Steel challenge range officers, IDPA safety officers, or NRA RSO’s will also shoot free if you are the designated RO for a squad. Please email the match director that you’re interested in being an RO for a squad.
1. Email match director at ddiomede@gmail.com to let him know that you would like to be an RO for a squad.
2. In the email, please indicate that you would like to be an RO, and provide first and last name, email address used for PS, division, and which organization you have your certification in.
3. The match director will then register you for the match.
4. If you want to shoot two divisions, it’ll just be $5. Go ahead and email match director and we'll get you registered and the $5 fee will be set on that second division. You'll just need to log into that second registration to make payment.
Also one additional note: In the event that you are DQ'd and are shooting more than one gun, the DQ applies for both guns. The official rulebook will be updated to reflect this change.
Registration fees are non-refundable, except in the event of match cancellation.
Please also be patient with emailing the match director (me). I travel extensively for work and don't have the ability to respond quickly at times.
Lastly, PLEASE USE AN EMAIL ADDRESS WHERE YOU'LL ACTUALLY SEE NOTIFICATIONS. This is extremely important because we send out event updates. There are some days where heavy rain or thunderstorms are predicted and we have to cancel the morning of. I try to get ahead of storms and cancel at least a day or two before, but we know that people look forward to these matches and if we're not positive, we'll play it by ear and check the forecast the morning of the match. Check your email before you leave the house in the morning because it may save you a drive.
