SUMMARY:2026-05-04 LE Practical Shooting Pilot hosted by Firearm Logic at Tempe Police FTU Range
DESCRIPTION:This session is a partnership between Firearm Logic and the Tempe Police Department.\nFirearm Logic’s mission is to introduce law enforcement to practical shooting as a supplemental tool to their current training. Practical shooting emphasizes composure\, fundamentals\, and execution under pressure. Shooting matches expose deficiencies while developing processing speed\, decision making\, and consistency in fundamentals.\nThis pilot is designed specifically for law enforcement personnel who are not familiar with practical shooting or competition shooting. The goal is to make it accessible in a controlled\, private environment.\nTempe Police Department is providing the use of their indoor range. Frangible ammunition is required and is the only ammunition permitted.\nPayment will be made through PractiScore.\nPriority acceptance will be given to first time practical shooting participants.\nThis session is open to all law enforcement agencies.\nIf your unit\, squad\, or specialized team is interested in hosting a similar pilot\, please contact dennis@firearmlogic.org\nEquipment and Range Rules\nParticipants should bring their duty gear or a holster that properly secures their firearm. A minimum of two magazine pouches and three magazines is required.\nThis session will be operated as a cold range. Firearms must be unloaded at all times unless under direct command. No round in the chamber and no magazine inserted while on the range.\nThe only time a firearm may be loaded is at the make ready command when you are the on deck shooter.\nParticipants should bring approximately 200 to 300 rounds of frangible ammunition.\nSession Structure\nThe session will begin with an introduction by lead instructor Dennis Tran\, followed by an overview of practical shooting\, hit factor scoring\, and a safety brief.\nParticipants will then have 5 minutes to walk the stage and develop a plan. There will be no coaching during this time. This cold planning phase is critical for identifying how each officer currently processes information and makes decisions.\nAfter the walkthrough\, a Firearm Logic assistant law enforcement instructor will demonstrate a baseline run at an achievable pace.\nParticipants will then complete their first scored run.\nFollowing the initial run\, instructors will break down stage planning\, movement\, and execution. Participants will then re plan the stage with a new start position and complete a second scored run.\nIf time allows\, participants may complete a third run for learning purposes only and it will not be scored.\nThe first two runs will be scored and uploaded to PractiScore for review.\nTempe Police FTU staff will be on site to assist with any non practical shooting matters\, including Sgt Joe\, Mike Lin\, and Wes Reeder.
