Match Director: Coach Sammy craig@coachsammy.ca\nRSO: Kris Watten\nThis is the Practise event for the 1030 Yard Steel Challenge Matches and in its 4th Year. There is one Practise date and three matches.\nThis practise has no scoring but can be used to shoot the same targets as the matches. You will have a time limit of 8 mins a relay and will swop out through the relays and then shoot again as your relay is up. You are expected to quickly get into your shooting lane and just as quickly to leave the shooting lane as soon as the RSO clears your rifle\, so we can keep the practise moving quickly and we can finish early.\nIt’s a great day to work on your shooting\, your dope\, your ammo and practise hitting the targets.\nThe upcoming Long Range Steel Challenge match series at 1030 yards will be held on Mons Range at CFB Borden. The Matches will consist of 6 Match stages of 50 points each with a time limit\, and a total score possible of 300 points for the match.\nFor 2026 the Championship Schedule will be:\n– 6 June  -1030 Yard Steel Challenge – Match 1of the Series\n– 12 July  -1030 Yard Steel Challenge – Match 2 of the Series\n– 19 Sept -1030 Yard Steel Challenge – Match 3 of the Series / Championship\nFor the Championship there will be awards for 1st\, 2nd & 3rd of each Division.\nIt will be based on Best 2 scores from the 3 matches shot in the series.\nWhat you Need to attend:\n1. Your Experience:\n– Have shot your rifle\, scope\, ammo combination numerous times\, have tested ammo to choose the best for your rifle\, and you must have your scope zeroed and centered\, and be able to 5 shot shoot groups of 1 MOA or less at 100 yards.\n– Know your scope\, rifle specs\, and how it all works.\n– Know how to slip your turrets on your scope\, and have the tools needed to do that.\n– For safety reasons if your Rifle or Scope is non-functional on the course\, you will be pulled from the course.\n2. ORA Membership + Waiver\nIf you are NOT an ORA 2026 Member\, you must register as a Guest\,\nand you must sign the Guest & Handload Ammo Waiver. If you want to Join ORA sign up online at this link): https://ontariorifleassociation.ca/membership-types/\n– Only approved Calibers as shown on the registration page below\, as per CFB Borden allowed Calibers for shooting steel.\n– Have a Ballistic Solver (Kestrel & AB Quantum App) with a Gun/Bullet profile created.\n–  Dope for 1000 yards. (If you are not hitting the targets or the near area around your target\, you will be pulled from the event).\n– Chamber Flag / ECI (Empty Chamber Indicator) must extend into chamber.\n– Scope preferably 25 x magnification in FFP\, w/ Christmas tree reticle\, in MIL or MOA\n– Rifle Magazine: box type 10 or 12  round removable mags or hunting rifle set up.\n– Ammo will not exceed a velocity of 3\,000 fps.\n– No Steel core or Steel Jacket ammo. You will be responsible for costs of any target damage. NO Excuses\, check it with magnet.\n– Ammo: factory match ammo or safe Hand-Load ammo\n– Bi-Pod approx. 10″ height\, plus extensions with Cant Control.\n– Shooting Bag (used under Buttstock)\n– Scope Level – either mechanical of electronic that attaches to Scope or Picatinny rail\,\n  and shows you when rifle is level\n– Spotting Scope in 20 to 60 x Magnification & tripod. (You can share a Spotting Scope with your shooting Partner).\n– Tools – All tools to adjust and slip your scope turrets\, scope mount\, buttstock\, and rifle\n– Shooting mat\n– Electronic Ears w/ Spare batteries. MANDATORY.\n  You must be able to hear Range Commands. For safety reasons anyone not hearing\n  or understanding range commands will be pulled from the event.\n– Eye Protection MANDATORY.\n– Sun Hat MANDATORY.\n– Sunscreen MANDATORY.\n– Water Minimum 5L\, preferably w/ Electrolytes. MANDATORY.\n  You will be required to  show your water. For Health and Safety reasons if you have\n  signs of Heat Related Illness you will be pulled from the Course.\n– Snacks & lunch. There is nothing is available on site\, and no time to leave the range.\n– Appropriate clothing for the weather. We shoot rain or extreme heat.\n  DO NOT WEAR BLACK CLOTHING. Wear light coloured and loose fitting clothing.\n– You may bring a Pop Up Tent to shelter under.\n– Work Gloves for Targets\n– Pens & Paper (Or device) for Notes\n– Allergic to anything? If so\, it’s mandatory to bring an EpiPen\, Antihistamines\,\n  Benadryl etc. There will not be any on site as we cannot administer medication.\nCost and Course Details:\n– Course Cost is $80 (If a not an ORA Member + $45 ORA Guest fee)\n– Read/watch material sent to you in advance by email\n– 1 day shooting at CFB Borden\nCourse Schedule:\n– Meet at 8.00 am at gate to Mons Range (Do not be late)\, check in with Staff at gate approve your caliber and sign in\, and a staff member give further instructions.\nHead Rifle Coach: Craig Samuel (aka Coach Sammy) is a:\n– Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) – Registered Coach with the Professional Coaching Program\n– Shooting Federation of Canada (SFC) – Shooting Instructor in ISSF (Olympic) shooting\, Certified in Pistol\, Rifle and Shotgun\n– Coach Sammy competes in long range rifle\, pistol and 3 gun matches of various disciplines and likes to shoot high scores.  Precision and accuracy make Coach Sammy smile.\n– SAFETY BRIEFING:  For safety reasons If you are not present for the start of the Safety Briefing you will not be allowed to shoot.\n– READ THIS PLEASE: If you do not certain you will attend this Course DO NOT REGISTER.\n– REFUNDS:  Refunds are available up until 45 days before the course\, less an Admin fee of $25. Under no circumstances can any payments be transferred to a future event or used by someone else.\n– DO NOT SPEED ON BASE. This is a training Base\, and MPs will ticket and possibly escort you off the Base. Follow Speed limit signs.\n50 km/h through centre of CFB Borden\, 60 Km/h on Range Road\, 15 Km/h on any range access road. Pass Marching Troops at a max of 15 km/h and less to be respectful.\n– MATCH CANCELLATION BY MILITARY:\nIf the event is cancelled by the Military because they need the Range\, then a full refund will be issued\, if an alternate date does not suit you. This is not common and usually done well in advance due to CAF Range requirements.\n– Because we shoot on a Military Range\, Range Control can shut us down for a high Fire Index\, Lightning or Storm Warning etc. This is out of our control\, and there is no refund in that scenario. I have seen it happen only once in the last 10 years\, but it’s part of shooting on a Military Range\, and must be stated.
