SUMMARY:Practical Shooting 1
DESCRIPTION:Practical Shooting 1 is a 2-hour class designed to prepare you for your first practical shooting match\, or refine your fundamentals. This course addresses the foundational skills to practical shooting in a fun and challenging way. \nPractical Shooting 1 sets a strong base for the beginning of your competitive shooting journey. The instructor’s goal for this course is to prepare you for the widely available practical shooting matches in the DFW area\, to include our own here at Defender Outdoors. For those who have already shot some matches but are looking for more than the basics\, please contact the instructor for a private lesson or look for our Practical Shooting 2 class. \nTopics Covered: \n\nPhysical structure\, grip\, and vision\nPredictive and reactive shooting\nConfirmation levels\nTarget transitions\nEntries and exits\nShooting on the move\nHit factor scoring\nProper equipment configuration\n\nWhat To Know Before You Get Here: \nWe request that all students do an honest self-evaluation of experience and skill level. Brand new shooters or those unsure with their abilities will feel overwhelmed jumping into a class like Practical Shooting 1\, which we have seen lead to safety issues and overall\, a lack of having fun. If that’s you\, we would love to see you in one of our other courses such as “Intro to Handgun”\, or “Pistol 2”! Taking one of these classes or a private lesson will set the stage to come into Practical Shooting 1. \nAt a minimum\, we recommend that you have confidence in the following: \n\nStrong understanding of the 4 Universal Rules of Firearm Safety\nYour accuracy out to 25 yards\nSafe draw from the holster and experience with your equipment\nProficiency with your firearm and the ability to clear any malfunctions\nHave any questions about the gear you have? Contact us at training@defenderoutdoors.com\n\nRequired Equipment: \n\nSemi-automatic handgun\, 9mm to 45ACP (No revolvers or calibers under 9mm)\nRed dots are HIGHLY encouraged but not required\nBelt mounted kydex or similar material holster on or forward of the hip (No leather or “sticky” holsters\, and no drawing from behind the hip)\n3 magazines or more\nMagazine pouch/holder (At least one)\nAppropriate range attire (pants\, close-toed shoes\, shooting belt or a sturdy belt)\nAppropriate ear and eye protection\n250 rounds of ammunition minimum (No steel core\, steel case\, or aluminum case allowed)\nNOTE: Round counts may vary\n\nREGISTER HERE

If the RO is unfamiliar with the operation of your particular firearm\, they will ask for assistance as needed. A D class production shooter and a Grand Master rimfire rifle open shooter can’t be equally compared. In order to earn a classification\, you must be a current USPSA member and complete any 4 stages in a single division.\nRule book\nThe official steel challenge rule book governs all of our matches please make sure to give it a read through so that you are familiar with the rules\, commands\, and equipment divisions.\nhttps://scsa.org/rules \nSafety\nWhile no one wants to disqualify (DQ) a shooter\, safety is our top priority. If you commit a serious safety infraction\, as noted in the rules\, you will be done shooting for the day. Any scores completed to that point will stand but you will not be able to continue shooting the match. It will be up to the match director’s discretion as to whether you may remain on the range. If you are permitted to remain to watch friends/family shoot\, you may not handle any uncased firearms for the remainder of the day. Example of serious\, DQ-able\, violation include\, but are not limited to\, Ammo on the safe table\, loaded firearms off the firing line\, negligent discharge of a firearm\, muzzle sweeping yourself or others\, picking up a dropped gun\, and dropping a loaded gun during a course of fire.

SUMMARY:1st Annual ALECA Shoot Out
DESCRIPTION:This is the first ever K9 match hosted through the Arizona Law Enforcement Canine Association ALECA. The purpose of this event is to emphasize the importance of continuing to grow in every facet of the profession.\nAs one mentor put it\, “You are a cop first\, dog handler second.” This match is built around that mindset\, providing a structured\, performance based environment for handlers to sharpen their individual shooting skills\, composure\, and decision making under time and pressure.\nThe match will consist of 5 stages designed to challenge and develop practical shooting performance in a competitive but supportive setting.\nBBQ will be provided.\nThere will be randomly drawn prizes including a Daniel Defense PCC and handguns\, along with additional sponsor giveaways.\nThis is the beginning of what we aim to grow into an annual event that brings K9 handlers together from across Arizona to build well rounded officers through performance based training and competition.
