SUMMARY:GPS Steel Challenge October 2026
DESCRIPTION:Our monthly officially sanctioned Steel Challenge match hosted at Wallis-Orchard Gun Range in Wallis\, TX.\nHammer down 8:30AM.\n\nSteel Challenge stages consist of 5 steel plates with one plate designated as the Stop Plate. You can shoot the plates in whatever order you like but the Stop Plate must be last because hitting the Stop Plate ends the current String of Fire. Your String doesn't end until you hit the Stop Plate so you can keep taking make up shots on missed plates until you decide to hit the Stop Plate or 30 seconds elapses.\nYou shoot 5 Strings in a row and your score for that stage is the total time of the best 4 Strings. Basically\, you get one throwaway String. The lowest total time across all stages wins. Most stages are shot stationary from within a shooting box\, but one stage does require you to move between boxes on the clock.\nYou can shoot centerfire pistols\, pistol caliber carbines\, 22LR pistols\, or 22LR rifles. 22LR pistols and all rifles start low ready\, pointing at a start mark so you don't need a holster or mag pouches for these divisions.\nFor more information about Steel Challenge\, check out our quick guide to Steel Challenge on our website: http://www.generationpracticalshooters.com/steel-challenge.html\nSee the full rules here: https://scsa.org/rules\nYou may shoot a 2nd gun for $10 more. To do this you must register for the match twice\, and select the 2nd gun discount when registering the second time and it'll only charge you $10 for the second entry. Make sure to squad your second entry with your first. Maximum 2 guns please.\n$10 Junior (under 18) discount on the first gun only\nRefunds are available only if you withdraw before the match closes.

If it is possible that some competitors arriving at a\nrange where a SCSA event is being held may be in possession of a loaded firearm on\ntheir person (e.g.\, law enforcement officers\, persons duly authorized to carry a loaded\nfirearm\, etc.)\, match organizers should provide an Unloading/Loading Station to enable\nsuch competitors to safely unload their firearms prior to entering the range\, and to\nsafely load their firearms again on departure from the range. The Unloading/Loading\nStation should be conveniently located outside the entrance to the range (or outside the\nportion of the range allocated to the SCSA event)\, it should be clearly marked\, and it\nmust include a suitable impact zone.\n…\n4. The object is to\nShoot the highest score possible.\nPISTOL CLASSES\nIron Sights\, with a 15" or less barrel\nRed dot or Pistol Scope with a 15" or less barrel\n THE TARGET- The targets are AR500 rimfire gongs\, an 5”\, 4”\, and 3” gong. Each gong has a value\, 1 point for the 5”\, 2 points for the 4”\, and 3 points for the 3” gong.\nTHE SETUP- From a bench rest (limited to sand bags\, no sleds) each shooter\, with 10 rounds of ammunition begins by shooting for the 5” gong. The shooter has a 3-minute time limit to complete their round\, the clock starts with their first shot.\nTHE ORDER- If the shooter hits the 5”\, they score 1 point and now can choose to advance to the 4” gong or continue shooting for the 5” gong. If the shooter advances to the 4” gong and connects\, that hit is worth 2 points\, and they now can choose to shoot for the 3” gong.\nTHE RULES- The shooter must tell the scorekeeper when they switch gongs. A hit only counts if it’s a solid gong hit\, chain or hanger hits do not count. If the shooter misses\, they must go back one gong. If the shooter shoots the wrong gong\, it counts as a zero and the shooter must resume shooting on the correct gong.\nTHE SCORE- The score is totaled after each shooter\, with a possible high score of 27 points (1+2+3+3+3+3+3+3+3+3=27). A complete game has every shooter fire 5 complete sets for a total of 50 rounds of ammunition (1 full box). The highest possible score for a competition is 135 points. In case of a tie score\, the winner is determined by the shooter with the highest single round score.\nTHE COMPETITORS- The order of the shooters in the first set is determined by drawing numbered chips\, and in each successive set the order of the shooters is determined by the scores\, with the lowest score shooting first. If two or more shooters have identical scores\, whoever shot the score initially will shoot first in the following round. (If Tom shoots an 11\, and then Dave also shoots an 11\, Tom will go before Dave in the following round.)\nTHE CHALLENGE- Hitting gongs at 100 ft. with a .22 LR is challenging. Hitting them repeatedly under changing conditions requires all the fundamentals used by the best pistol shooters in the world. Do you think you have what it takes?\nWe will give one 5 shot sight in time before the 1st round of the match on a 10" steel plate or berm only. This is done when it is your turn to shoot only.\nPlease come out and join us for some\, or all these events. While competitive in spirit\, these matches are fun shoots and there are plenty of shooters willing to help if you are interested in joining us!\nTime:\n-Check-in: 0900\n-Match Brief: 09:45\n-Match Start: 10:00\nCost:\n$10 for IWLA Clear Spring members\n$15 for non members\nThere is no sight in period before match starts - come ready to shoot.\nThe match is held at the IWLA Clear Spring pistol range.\nGPS coordinates of the pistol range: 39.662696\, -77.837639
