If the shooter advances to the 6” gong and connects\, that hit is worth 2 points\, and they now can choose to shoot for the 4” gong. EXAMPLE-(Dave shoots and hits the 8” gong\, scoring 1 point. Dave says he’s going to shoot for the 6”\, he hits it scoring 2 more points. Dave says he’s going for the 4” gong\, shoots and misses scoring a zero\, and now must move back to the 6” gong. If Dave misses his shot on the 6”\, he will score another zero and be forced to move back to the 8” gong. If Dave hits the 6” he’ll score 2 points and again have the opportunity to shoot at the 4” gong.) THE RULES-The shooter must tell the scorekeeper when they switch gongs. A hit only counts if it’s a solid gong hit\, chain hits do not count. If the shooter misses\, they must go back one gong. If the shooter shoots the wrong gong\, it counts as a zero and the shooter must resume shoo ng on the correct gong. THE SCORE- The score is totaled a er each shooter\, with a possible high score of 27 points (1+2+3+3+3+3+3+3+3+3=27). A complete game has every shooter fire 5 complete sets for a total of 50 rounds of ammunition on (1 full box). The highest possible score for a competition is 135 points. In case of a e score\, the winner is determined by the shooter with the highest single round score. THE COMPETITORS- The order of the shooters in the first set is determined by drawing numbered chips\, and in each successive set the order of the shooters is determined by the scores\, with the lowest score shoo ng first. If two or more shooters have identical scores\, whoever shot the score in ally will shoot first in the following round. (If Tom shoots an 11\, and then Dave also shoots an 11\, Tom will go before Dave in the following round.) THE CHALLENGE- Hi ng gongs at 300yds with a 22lr is challenging. Hi ng them repeatedly under changing conditions requires all the fundamentals used by the best long-distance shooters in the world. Do you think you have what it takes?

SUMMARY:Payson Long Gong
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to Long Gong at the Tonto Rim Sports Club\nAll you need is a scoped .22LR rifle\, a bipod and separate rear bag. And 50 rounds of ammo.\nWe’ll supply three gong targets: 8"\, 6"\, and 4"\nYou shoot from the bench\, and the targets are 300 yards down range.\nThe object is to score as many points as possible with those 50 rounds. You get 1 point for each hit on the 8"\, 2 points for the 6"\, and 3 points for each hit on the 4" steel gong.\nSince this is a risk/reward competition\, you shoot for the 8" first\, and if you hit it\, you may move to the 6". Hit that\, and you can move on to the 4". A miss on the 6" or 4" means that you move back to the previous gong\, and must hit it before moving on. Each competitor shoots 5 10-round strings\, with the maximum possible score of 27 for each string (1+2+3+3+3+3+3+3+3+3) and 135 total for the match.\nIt's a game so simple a child can play; so challenging even the best shooters will never perfect it\, and to top it all off\, it’s highly addictive!\nCome join us for a Long Gong match on the 3rd Sunday of each month\, at the Tonto Rim Sports Club’s Jim Jones Shooting Range. Non-members welcome. While competitive in spirit\, these matches are fun shoots and we are willing to help if you are interested in joining us! Match fee $5. Please and choose a squad. Squads consist of 3 competitors: shooter\, spotter\, scorekeeper\, and you rotate thru each position.\nNote: The targets will be set up at 7:00\, with time available for sight setting. Also\, we will give one 2-minute sight-in time before your 1st round. This is done when it is your turn to shoot only.\nContact Match Director / Doug Hutter at 928-951-0248 steel_chickens_TRSC@yahoo.com
